I like a restaurant that is health conscious and City Wok in Palm Desert sits high on my list. First of, they don’t even blink an eye when you ask for brown rice. I actually prefer white steam rice to go with all the delicious dishes there but for my health conscious wife that I have, it is brown rice all the way.
The first time I tried City Wok was when we used to live in Studio City and City Wok was half a block away from our apartment. It was located on busy Ventura Blvd and Vineland. When we came to the desert, we were ecstatic to find City Wok in Palm Desert because we had always enjoyed their food, service and value. You can find it at the NW corner of Cook Street and Country Club Drive.
My favourite dishes would be the ones that start with ‘City Wok’ such as the City Wok Shrimp, City Wok Beef and City Wok Chicken. All of them are delicious and even though they follow the same naming convention, they are all very different. City Wok Beef reminds me of Panda Express’ Beijing Beef but much better. I find Panda’s recipe to be too dry whereas at City Wok, the beef is tender and coated with just enough sauce. Everything is cooked with perfection and dishes arrive hot and steamy.
Unique to City Wok are their half dishes which are great for lunch meals, eating alone or when you want to sample more dishes but don’t want to just fill up on one. Other recommendations include Twice Cooked Pork, Chow Fun, Singapore Rice Noodle, Szechuan Eggplant, Deep Fried String Beans, Garlic Pork, Honey Sesame Shrimp, Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Chicken and all the City Wok dishes.
